Every GEMS plan covers hospital treatment, cancer treatment and emergency evacuation in full within its annual maximum. The higher levels add out-patient care and wellness benefits. All figures below are per insured person per policy year, from the USD table of benefits.

Programme basics
- Who can join: expatriates and their dependants, anywhere in the world. New applications are accepted up to age 79; cover is renewable for life.
- Underwriting: full medical underwriting, moratorium, or continued cover from your current insurer (CPME). You choose in the application; Hans explains the difference if you are unsure.
- Renewal date: 1 October each year for the programme's policies (a few run on their own date). New joiners pay a pro-rated premium to the next renewal.
- Start of cover: once the insurer has accepted the application and the premium has been paid.
- Portability: if AusCham or your organisation ceases, you keep your policy without interruption.

Who is behind the programme
